Bob Haberly and Tom Mitchell joined the Navy together after high
school on the "buddy system" and I remember that they
soon were separated. Bob was in the Navy for approximately 8 years
(about 1959-67). He was in the Photo-Intelligence division and was
stationed in Omaha, NE; Norfolk,VA and did an overseas duty in the
Azores before finally ending up at the Jacksonville Naval Air Station.
He was also a member of the Navy's Bowling Team and had several
perfect 300 games.
After
he left the service, he worked for Prudential Life Insurance Company
and became a district manager in Jacksonville. He had his first
heart attack and bypass at age 40 (1981) and shortly after that
retired from Prudential. He spent the next 10 years doing a lot
of fishing at his second home in Welaka, FL on the St. Johns River,
before his second bypass in 1991. He died post-op from complications
July 4, 1991.
Bob married Mildred Garrason of Georgia in 1960 and had two sons,
Robert, Jr.(b.1961) and Scott (b. 1969).
